Experimentation

At the moment I am experimenting with several different types of glass work.

  • Potmelt:  Layers of glass are suspended in a terracotta pot in the kiln and heated up to 950o C and allowed to drip onto a precoated surface creating an abstract and unique design.  I am looking at adapting this procedure to accomodate the height and tempreture range of my Kiln.  A similar effect can be seen by layering the glass on steel mesh and prolonging the time at a lower tempreture.  Watch this space...............

  • Reaction between coloured Glass:  I found that when I was adding certain coloured glass together an interface seem to occur, initially  I noticed this when I was lampworking, but I also noticed it with fused glass samples.  Different coloured glass contain different chemicals, colours which contain copper tend to react with colours containing sulphur. I am looking at what compounds are found in which  glass and trying out different combinations.  See my reaction jewellery

  • Kilncasting : Will be attending Lost wax course at www.liquidglasscentre.co.uk. Feb 2011.  Looking forward to experimenting more with lost wax technique.  Will keep you informed.
